Who we are

LankanTax (“we”) publishes lankantax.com and makes LankanTax Desktop and LankanTax for Accountants. We are based in Colombo, Sri Lanka. For anything in this policy, write to founder@lankantax.com.

The calculators

Every calculator on this site (salary and APIT, income tax, advanced, gratuity, freelancer) performs its arithmetic in your browser. The figures you type are not transmitted to LankanTax or to anyone else. The “Copy link” and “Share” options place your figures in the address of the page so that you can reopen or forward them; that link is created on your device and we do not receive it unless you send it to us.

Information you give us

  • Waitlist and demo requests. If you join the waitlist or request a demo we collect the email address and any other details you enter in that form. The submission is delivered to our team through a private Discord channel used only for this purpose and is used to contact you about the product you asked about. It is not sold or shared for marketing by others.
  • Email. If you email us we keep the correspondence for as long as needed to deal with it.
  • Directory listings. The Find a Tax Consultant directory lists firms using business contact details taken from their public websites and the CA Sri Lanka practising register. A firm can ask for its listing to be corrected or removed by emailing us.

Analytics and cookies

We use Google Tag Manager to load Google Analytics 4. Google Analytics sets cookies and collects information about how you use the site, such as the pages you visit, the device and browser you use, an approximate location derived from your IP address, and interactions such as using a calculator or clicking a button. We use this in aggregate to see which guides help people and where the site is failing them. IP addresses are not stored by Google Analytics 4. Google’s own privacy policy governs its processing of this data. You can prevent analytics cookies by blocking cookies for lankantax.com in your browser or by installing Google’s opt-out browser add-on.

The site itself sets no other cookies for visitors. If you sign in to the accountant edition at app.lankantax.com, that application sets the session cookies it needs to keep you logged in; it has its own terms shown at sign-up.

LankanTax Desktop

LankanTax Desktop stores your tax data (income, deductions, documents and completed returns) in files on your own computer. It does not upload that data to LankanTax. If you choose to back up to Google Drive or OneDrive, that copy is held under your own account with that provider and governed by their terms. The application checks our server for updates and licence validity; those requests carry your licence key and version number, not your tax data.

Who we share information with

We share personal information only with the service providers named here (Google for analytics, Discord for form delivery, our web host in the AWS Asia Pacific region) and only to the extent needed to run the site. We will disclose information if required to by Sri Lankan law or a court order.

Your rights

Under the Personal Data Protection Act No. 9 of 2022 you may ask what personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct or erase it, and withdraw consent to marketing contact at any time. Email founder@lankantax.com and we will respond within 21 days. Waitlist and demo records are deleted when the request has been dealt with or after 24 months, whichever is sooner, unless you have become a customer.

Children

The site is written for adults dealing with their own or their clients’ tax affairs. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

Changes to this policy

If we change what we collect or why, we will update this page and the effective date above. Material changes affecting waitlist members will be emailed to them.
